Cover star Margo Price is a relatively young 34, yet her music is sure to appeal to seasoned listeners who grew up listening to Loretta Lynn. Likewise Midland, a throwback to the 70s country rock of The Eagles and classic George Strait, are suddenly the hippest thing in town. Who’d have thought that? Bottom line, their records are great, no matter what the year.

We also have the established queens of kings of country. We speak to the living legend that is Dolly Parton and we look back at the remarkable formation of The Highwaymen, the “Mount Rushmore Of Country Music” that was Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson. We also revisit the strange tales of when Paul McCartney went to Nashville to cut “country” tracks in the 1970s.

Elsewhere, we have features on Kip Moore and Thomas Rhett, the remarkable White Buffalo, the fast-rising Courtney Marie Andrews and a full report from October’s Country Music Week in London. If that’s not enough, we journey to the edge of sanity and talk to TV “geezer” Shane Richie about his new country album. That’s right: this has really happened!

It’s also time to take stock of a brilliant year. As well as our regular in-depth reviews section, we have Country Music magazine’s choice of the 30 Best Albums Of 2017. How many do you have? And which of your favourite albums have we overlooked?

Enjoy the issue.
