Watch Tommy Emmanuel and Amanda Shires re-work Madonna’s Borderline – country style!

On 19 January 2018, guitar virtuoso Tommy Emmanuel releases his collaborations album, Accomplice One.

The 16-track album features guests such as Jason Isbell, Mark Knopfler, Rodney Crowell, Jerry Douglas, Amanda Shires, Ricky Skaggs, David Grisman and JD Simo, and contains a mix of new original songs and new takes on indelible classics.

One of those covers is of Madonna’s 1983 hit, Borderline. Watch the video here.

On Borderline, Emmanuel’s subtle and tasteful guitar blends with Amanda Shires’ gorgeous vocal and fiddle playing, which thoroughly transforms the song. Tommy says: “This was an early hit for Madonna which was brought to my attention by a brilliant artist from Sweden named Theresa Andersson.

When we toured through Europe and Scandinavia, we did this song in our show and it really got a great response from the audiences. Amanda Shires is known for her western swing and Americana style, but was adventurous enough to give this song a go. She nailed it.”

Tommy Emmanuel’s Accomplice One is out 19 January 2018 on via Players Club / Mascot Label Group.
